Kris Meeke escapes to Finland

After the equality between Ott Tänak (Ford) and Andreas Mikkelsen (Volkswagen) last night after the first special of the Rally Finland, we expected a duel between the two hosts of the last Rally from Poland.

But it's Kris Meeke (DS3) who quickly showed himself at the forefront this morning by signing the first scratch of the day ahead of Ott Tänak. The two drivers will then engage in a real mano-a-mano until SS5.

After an impressive time in SS4, the Estonian was back to within seven tenths of Meeke, but a spin in the next sector caused him to lose almost 33″ and contact with the leading DS3. Worse, a damaged suspension on the Estonian's Fiesta RS slowed him down again in the following SS and the unfortunate hero in Poland is now in 10th position, 53″9 behind Meeke.

Jari-Matti Latvala (Volkswagen), despite a puncture in SS4, finds himself in second position 18″8 ahead Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen), who limits the damage despite his position as opener and maintains his third place overall at 23″3.

Le Français devance son équipier Andreas Mikkelsen de 5″9. La Hyundai i20 Thierry Neuville follows in fifth position ahead of the DS3 WRC de Craig Breen, who lost two positions in SS6 after shooting straight at an intersection.

Mads Ostberg places the first Ford Fiesta RS in seventh position at 36″5 ahead of Hayden Paddon (Hyundai i20), Eric Camilli (Ford Fiesta), author of a spin in SS6, and Ott Tänak. Lorenzo Bertelli (Ford Fiesta RS) experienced a transmission problem this morning, as did Valeriy Gorban (Mini), but the Italian's problem seems partly resolved.

In WRC-2, Esapekka Lappi (Skoda) largely dominated the morning and is in the lead with 20″7 over Elfyn Evans (Ford Fiesta R5) and 26″1 over Pontus Tidemand (Skoda). In the Junior WRC, Ole Christian Veiby is ahead of Juuso Nordgren by 7″9 and Simone Tempestini by 13″4. Terry Folb and Vincent Dubert stand at 23″2 and 1’03″7. SS7 of the Rally Finland will start at 13:10 p.m. and will once again be followed live on our website.
