Kubica: “I have to be sure I’m up to standard” for the WRC

After securing the title by winning his fifth victory of the season at Rally of Spain, Robert Kubica is preparing to compete in Wales Rally GB (November 14-17) in the DS3 WRC by Khalid Al Qassimi. The Pole seems able to compete in the 2014 season in the premier category despite his limited experience since Yves Matton recognized that he was part of the list of contenders to defend the colors of the Reds. However, the former pilot of F1 is still handicapped by his injuries following his serious accident in 2011.

If the prospect of a future in rallying is no longer in doubt, Robert Kubica still seems hesitant about his near future. “It’s like in F1 with the “silly season” (the crazy season where transfer rumors are in full swing). Everyone gives their point of view and someone will be right on the job. It's no secret that I have opportunities to drive in a WRC next year, but I don't yet know with whom or if the timing is right. Wales Rally GB won't change my opinion, but I need to be sure I'm up to the task if I'm given a major role. After a difficult period, I must say that it is not so obvious when you experience it. 50% of the rallies will be new to me and it depends a lot on the expectations of the people who put me in the car. If I stay next year, I will continue to learn because you can only judge the level of a driver in the WRC after three seasons. It is certain that I would have made a mistake if I am not able to fight with the best in three years. But it’s too early to talk about it, my first gravel rally was only in March. » It was at the Canary Islands Rally where he was in the lead with more than a minute ahead of Jan Kopecky at the end of the first stage before retiring in the second.
