Argentina and Mexico absent from WRC 2021

Covid-19 continues to cause collateral victims. The promoter of WRC having decided to stay in Europe during the first half of 2021, two historic rallies will be absent from the calendar.

Le rally of Mexico confirmed its absence from the 2021 WRC in a press release on Thursday evening. The Central American round had been on the program since 2004 and had established itself as one of the flagship events of the season, boosted by a large and enthusiastic audience.

The same can be said of the Argentina rally. A legend temporarily retires. Organizers announced the bad news on social media on Friday. The event is also experiencing difficulties linked to the health crisis, in particular travel restrictions. “ After 39 years of history, not experiencing a rally in 2021 hurts” regrets David Eli, general coordinator of the rally. “I have the same disappointment that fans who love this magnificent discipline must feel. We are working hard, as we always have, and we hope to return to the calendar in 2022. From now on, all our efforts are focused towards this goal and we will do everything in our power to experience the rally again from Argentina. »

The Argentina rally, one of the most popular each year, had always been present in the WRC season calendar since its creation in 1980. Only the 1982 edition had to be canceled because of the Falklands War. In 2020, it was scheduled for April before its postponement, then its definitive cancellation in July.
