While the WRC will evolve in 2022 by switching to hybrid, the FIA ​​revealed several technical details at the end of its last World Council which was held this Thursday in Paris, specifying that the last details should be finalized in the first quarter of the year 2020.

In addition to using hybrid technology, the Rally1 category which will concern WRCs may be based on bodywork from production or have a tubular structure. The objective is to be able to maintain the dimensions of the models, with a margin of work offered to manufacturers so that they can adapt their different models into cars. rally.

The internal combustion engine will come from current specifications which will be supported by a 100kw hybrid system, but development costs will be controlled. The teams will have the same block by sharing the “hardware” and “software” models. The Rally1s will be able to run electric on urban routes and have a “power boost” that can be used on super special stages.

The FIA ​​clarified that the aggressive lines of the current WRCs would be preserved.

In addition, manufacturers will be able to enter an additional car entered separately without it being allowed to score points for the factory team.
