FIA wants to work with Siemens to improve spectator safety

Faced with the resurgence of the sometimes unconscious placement of certain spectators along the special stages of certain rallies, the FIA decided to act.

The international federation wishes to initiate a project with the Siemens entity, using the technologies of the German group, to allow event organizers to better detect poorly positioned spectators.

It is true that it remains complicated for any event organizer to control each kilometer of special, hence the FIA's desire to move forward on the subject.

Detectors could be developed on board certain cars, but also placed on the side of the road, in order to create a 2D and 3D simulation and thus potentially alert any careless spectator.

The use of artificial intelligence could also be part of this. A so-called security network would also be part of this package, linking drivers, observers, race organizers and spectators.

“This agreement between Siemens and the FIA on a research and development project using cutting-edge motorsport and urban transport technologies will allow us to make racing safer and significantly influence the development of transport in cities intelligent. » underlines FIA President Jean Todt.
