The Ford Fiesta “Evo” unveils its new features

Expected for several weeks, as we were told Sébastien Ogier (see Ah n°2172), the “Evo” version of the Ford Fiesta WRC was officially revealed by the M-Sport Ford WRT a few days before the departure of Rally of Finland (July 27-29).

The new features mainly focused on aerodynamics are located on the rear part of the car displaying the blue oval with greatly enlarged wing openings, et évoquant clairement celles vues sur la Toyota Yaris WRC.

The other area of intervention of the M-Sport engineers, who have worked in close collaboration with Ford Performance under the strengthened links since the start of the season, focuses on the broadcaster, which offers improved support.

On the other hand, M-Sport Ford will not put all its eggs in one basket on the Finnish bumps since only Sébastien Ogier will be able to benefit from this “Evo” version, notably due to the availability of parts.

“The team worked around the clock to ensure the new aero would be ready for Finland, recognizes Malcolm Wilson, Team Principal of the Dovenby Hall stable. It's just on one car at the moment, but we are confident that it will give Sébastien and Julien a little more margin. »

“We will have some aerodynamic updates to the rear of the car which we hope will give us a little extra in terms of performance, but we will have to get everything perfect throughout the weekend if we want to be in the fight for the best results. » However, confesses Sébastien Ogier, winner for the only time at the 1000 Lakes in 2013.

Ogier, Elfyn Evans and Teemu Suninen will aim to bring Ford back to the top step of the Finnish podium, which has been fleeing the American brand since 2010, and the victory of Jari-Matti Latvala with the Focus WRC. Ford remains the most successful manufacturer in Finland with thirteen victories
