The Ford Fiesta still at the heart of M-Sport’s strategy

Focus, Puma… there was no shortage of possibilities to continue to see Ford evolve in the World Rally Championship in 2022, the year the next Rally1 technical regulations come into force, which should give pride of place to hybridization.

Except that M-Sport devrait rester fidèle à la Fiesta, base de son engagement en WRC since 2011 (first with the Fiesta RS WRC, then the Fiesta WRC of the current regulations). The Fiesta which will also be used for the future Rally3 from the Dovenby Hall firm, thus joining the current Fiesta R5 MKII (or Rally2) and Rally4 (formerly R2).

“Designers are working on a new Ford Fiesta Rally1 planned for 2022, and in Krakow the team is engaged in the development of a new Ford Fiesta Rally3 designed to bridge the gap between two- and four-wheel drive in 2021.” indicates M-Sport.

The arrival of Rally1 in 2022, however, remains a subject of concern for manufacturers, particularly in terms of costs, despite the measures put forward by the FIA last March, so that these future cars are less expensive than current cars. A sound of bells heard both at M-Sport and at Hyundai.
