Greece offers WRC program

It is these trials that have built the myth of WRC. On the overheated slopes of the Hellenic peninsula, the greatest ones revealed themselves, as Carlos Sainz, vainqueur pour la première fois en Championnat du Monde en 1990 au volant de la Toyota Celica, ou ont triomphé comme Björn Waldegård, Ari Vatanen ,Walter Röhrl, Juha Kankkunen, Didier Auriol, Colin McRae ou Sébastien Loeb

But since 2014, the famous Rally of the Acropolis is no longer included in the world calendar, “demoted” in the European Rally Championship. A situation that the organizers want to change, who have confirmed their desire to return to the forefront in 2017.

“The Greek Motor Sport Federation, with the support of both the region of Central Greece and the municipality of Lamia, which this year ideally led the organization of the Acropolis Rally, sent the FIA a request for registration on the 2017 World Rally Championship calendar.

According to the plan submitted, the race will take place over four days. The route will once again include the stages of central Greece, with a centralization around Athens, and in particular the Olympic stadium, where, as ten years ago, a super special event will be organized

The changes to the technical regulations, which will bring new quality cars for the 2017 World Championship, and the commitment of two additional teams (Citroën Racing and Toyota Gazoo Racing) should give new life to this institution. It is no coincidence, therefore, according to reports, that more than ten countries have requested to join the calendar, with the International Federation expected to decide before the end of October. »
