Some bad luck has struck the clan Citroën yesterday in Argentina. At the same compression in the fourth special, Kris Meeke and Craig Breen have lost all hope of playing the leading roles in the South American event.
Meeke took off then went off the road, while a stone in the compression damaged the gearbox of Breen's C3, forcing the duo of the French brand to retire.
“This double abandonment is particularly frustrating, because it occurs in the context of an event which has always been successful for Citroën, laments Yves Matton, director of Citroën Racing.
At the same time, we have an offensive approach, since we start each rally with the ambition of winning it. This involves a certain amount of risk-taking and sometimes frustration.
We will try to understand why our two cars experienced a relatively similar mishap in the same place. »
Despite the significant damage to Kris Meeke's C3, the Citroën Racing mechanics managed to restore the Briton's vehicle. He and his teammate Craig Breen will leave under the Rally2 rule this Saturday for the second stage of the Rally Argentina, still dominated by Elfyn Evans' Ford Fiesta.
