She has made herself desired, but she is arriving on the track very soon. The all-new Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 will finally take part in its first official competition in rally. It will be at the Lausitz Rally (Germany), from November 3 to 5, with the Toksport WRT team and Andreas Mikkelsen, WRC2 champion. The Norwegian, who has been developing the car for several months, will be able to test the new Skoda in real racing conditions. After months of intensive private testing, the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 made its first public appearance last July. It took on the role of zero car during the Bohemia Rally, an all-tarmac round of the Czech championship. This time, gravel specials are on the program. With his co-driver Torstein Eriksen, Andreas Mikkelsen will take part in the Lausitz Rally, the final of the European Rally Trophy (ERT) in Germany. As usual, the two Norwegians drive for the Toksport WRT team, with the support of Skoda Motorsport. This full-scale test will finalize the development of the Czech car with a view to entering the WRC2 championship.
“A real challenge” for the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2
“This rally is completely new for me, said Andreas Mikkelsen. From what I've seen in the videos, the stages are quite fast. In some parts, deep ruts make second runs quite difficult. This rally should make the competitive debut of the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 a real challenge. »
As stipulated by the regulations, the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 is equipped with a 1,6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine mated to a five-speed sequential gearbox and four-wheel drive devoid of electronic control systems. While the chassis is based on the production model, the engine is derived from the engine family that Skoda uses on its RS road cars. With a displacement reduced to the authorized 1,6 liter, the four-cylinder engine in rally version delivers around 290 horsepower.
