Pressure mounts for Loeb

After a mediocre fifth place in Japan, Sébastien Loeb has the opportunity to be crowned on his land during the next Rally of France. The Citroën Total World Rally Team could even win its sixth Manufacturers' title if it wins. The cards are in the hands of the World Champion, who knows that the only satisfactory result will be first place on the podium.

« It’s a lot of pressure! Given my success rate on this surface, everyone expects me to win with ease », recognized Dani Sordo’s teammate. “ However, this rally will not be easier than the others. On the contrary, it is a unique route, with generally fast roads which concentrate many of the difficulties that we usually encounter on asphalt. With six drivers able to win this season, the level of the World Championship is very high and I do not consider this event to be won in advance. »

The six-time World Champion will, however, be motivated by his desire to win, increased by the support of the spectators and his team. “ The ideal would be for this to happen as soon as possible. Obviously, winning my sixtieth victory and a seventh world title at home would represent the fulfillment of a dream. Winning my sixtieth world victory in Haguenau and winning a seventh title at the same time would be a magical moment.. "

The Citroën driver nevertheless expects tough competition, who will seek to defeat him on his home turf. “ You will have to be the fastest against opponents whose motivation will undoubtedly be increased tenfold! There will be a lot of waiting from everyone who will be present and the stakes are high for Citroën: all this contributes to adding pressure. We will have to manage it, but I am looking forward to this rally with great impatience. »

If the test is new to WRC, the other French events are usually held in Corsica, the Frenchman can still count on his experience of Alsatian roads to ensure a sustained pace. “ I competed in several rallies in the region at the start of my career, at the end of the 90s. For example, the start of the Firstplan special corresponds to the very first special I competed in at the Rallye du Florival in 1997. I remember quite well the sectors taken by the Alsace-Vosges Rally, particularly near Châtas. Overall, the stages are very varied, with wide and fast sections which follow very narrow and bumpy sections, particularly in the undergrowth. On the other hand, I don't know the Bitche military camp at all, but I imagine that it won't be very different from Baumholder in Germany. »
