The 2017 Volkswagen Polo R towards approval?

What if the 2017 Volkswagen Polo R finally evolved into WRC next year ? In issue 2090 of AUTOhebdo, we already know that the German brand wanted to complete the approval process, after a final test session organized in Sweden, where Marcus Grönholm was involved.

The hypothesis now seems even more credible, in view of recent statements from Frank Welsch, head of development at the Wolfsburg firm. The latter indicates to our colleagues from Autocar, that private teams could exploit the German car in 2017.

“A lot of privateer teams have asked to run the car and, although there is no decision yet on whether we will do it, with development 99% complete, it makes sense to complete the final prerequisites for approval, explains Welsch. We can do this if necessary. For now, all I can say is that people are interested and we're keeping that possibility open. »

The potential presence of the 2017 Polo R in the World Cup cannot yet be completely ruled out, even if two examples must be entered throughout the championship for the approval process to be completed.
