Pirelli tire development launched for 2021

Replacing Michelin as supplier exclusive to the World Rally Championship (WRC) over the period 2021-2024, Pirelli has announced the start of the tire development process for the 2021 season.

The Italian manufacturer, present in the WRC since the beginning of the World Cup in 1973, has acquired 25 titles and 181 victories. This role of sole partner is not new, as the previous contract dates back to the end of the 2000s (2008 to 2010). Since 2018, Pirelli has begun a comeback via the lower classes, Junior WRC and WRC 2 in particular.

Pirelli is also taking advantage of the GP Ice Race in the Austrian town of Zell am See to unveil a studded tire suitable for rally from Sweden, the Sottozero Ice J1, already refined for vehicles in the premier category.

For the little story, Pirelli is the only manufacturer to include studs during tire vulcanization, and not after this step.
