Argentina under the sign of endurance

In accordance with the FIA's desire to extend the duration of the events WRC, the organizers of Rally of Argentina, the fifth event on the calendar which will take place from April 26 to 29, have developed a record course of 1700km, 503 of which are timed, which the 60 crews (including 16 in the WRC) will have to cross. A special stage characterized by its length will be reserved for each day. Friday will feature two passages in the 51,9km Ascochinga – Agua de Oro special, while the second stage will force the crews to cross the 39,7km Intiyaco – Golpe de Agua special twice. The last day will offer the biggest challenge with the 66km from Matadero? Ambul.

If several voices, including that of Sébastien Loeb, protest against the extension of the WRC events, Michèle Mouton, the manager of the discipline, believes on the contrary that this choice will increase the interest in the competition by bringing the rally back to its bases. “Having endurance stages is a good thing because there always comes out a story. Something will always happen in these stages and this is as interesting for the journalists as for the spectators. Of course we see them as long stages today, but they were just normal in the past. We therefore want to give everyone the feeling that arriving at the end of these stages is a special success and thus create history. »
