Latvala prioritized differential settings

After two successful opening tests at Rally Monte-Carlo and in Sweden, with a victory on the Nordic snow, Jari-Matti Latvala and Toyota suffered a little more on Mexican soil, with a final sixth place for the Finn, more than 4'40" behind the winner Kris Meeke (Citroën).

The race in Central America was made complicated for the former Volkswagen driver by problems with engine overheating and brake cooling.

Latvala also believes that the settings on the differentials of his Yaris WRC deserve to be explored further in view of Argentina this weekend. “Even the roads tend to be soft and sandy, there is usually good grip and I worked particularly on the differential settings.

I think they weren't the most suitable for me in Mexico. This is something I really wanted to improve for Argentina, and we have good solutions now. »

The podium as a goal?

Toyota hopes to take full advantage of the data acquired on Mexican soil to return to the forefront in Argentina, after failing to reach the podium during the last two rounds contested

“We learned a lot of useful things from Mexico, with gravel and high altitudes, which will be useful for Argentina, analyzes Team Principal Tommi Mäkinen.

We have improved the car at each rally, so our goal is to see another improvement in Argentina. I think we are in a better position than before Mexico, and so we can get a good result. »

The South American round will see Toyota field two Yaris for the Latvala – Hänninen tandem, before a third Finn, Esapekka Lappi, makes his racing debut on the Rally of Portugal (May 19-21).
