Latvala: “A fantastic victory”

On the list of Rally from Finland, if Marcus Grönholm and Hannu Mikkola are still at the top of the hierarchy with seven successes, Jari-Matti Latvala matched this Sunday with another Finnish rally legend, in the person of Juha Kankkunen, quadruple world champion with a third triumph on his land.

Struggling throughout the event with his teammate at Volkswagen Sébastien Ogier, Latvala, who scored his 400th special success in WRC Friday, made the powder speak yesterday by widening the gap on the double world champion. One of his best loops according to the 30-year-old driver.

“I had really good driving throughout the weekend. Saturday in particular, it was one of the best of my career,
admits the winner. After Poland, I focused for three weeks for this event. My chances at the championship were over, but I knew if I could win this week it would help me. It's a fantastic victory. »

This victory, the 14th of his career, and the second of the year after Portugal, allows the VW driver to return to second position in the Drivers' standings, 89 points behind Sébastien Ogier.
