WRC 2020 calendar revealed, Corsica not on the program

Le WRC has revised its calendar in depth for the 2020 season. The Tour de Corse, the Rally of Catalonia and the Rally of Australia leave the world championship in favor of Kenya, New Zealand and Japan.

Monte-Carlo and Sweden will once again kick off the season before traveling to Mexico, Chile and Argentina. After returning to Europe for Portugal and Italy, the WRC Circus will travel to Kenya for the first time since 2002 before Finland.

New Zealand will return to the WRC calendar for the first time since 2012, replacing Australia. The season will end with Turkey, Germany, Great Britain and Japan, which marks its return after an absence of 10 years.

“We needed more rounds outside of Europe to have an international championship, comments the Rally Director within the FIA, Yves Matton. I look forward to seeing the results of this expansion strategy by finding iconic events such as Kenya or Japan returning to the calendar, as well as New Zealand replacing Australia. These events registered with the European rounds will offer a good balance and preserve the DNA of the sport. »

“After the integration of Chile last year, the 2020 calendar expands its presence on the Asian and African continents. With strong interest from several countries to host a round of the WRC, we had high profile candidates with several choices available in the calendar. This demonstrates the good health and popularity of the championship. The rotation system that we adopted allows us to maintain many famous WRC events”, adds the former director of Citroën Racing.
