Since 1979 and the Critérium du Québec won by the late Björn Waldegård in a Ford Escort RS 1800, Canada has not hosted a round of the World Rally Championship.
At a time when several destinations are trying to arrive or return to WRC (Japan…), Canada and its governing bodies are mobilizing for the potential organization of a rally in the next five years.
The Rally Promoter Association of Canada has launched studies in this direction with the support of the Canadian Association of Rallysport, the governing body of Canadian motorsport.
“The coming year will be dedicated to meeting a wide range of officials and potential partners to ensure that a foundation exists, declares Keith Morison director of the Rally Promoter Association, quoted by the WRC website. Once we understand where the supports lie, we can then begin to flesh out the details. »
North America has not hosted a WRC round since the Olympus Rally in 1988.
