The DTM after the WRC – Sébastien Ogier is thinking about it

A few days before attacking the Rally from Germany, Sébastien Ogier made a detour to the Nürburgring, where the 7th round of the DTM. The opportunity for the Volkswagen driver to trade in his Polo R WRC to compete against Mattias Ekström's Audi RS 5. After completing 5 laps on the 3,629 km circuit, the Gapençais, who then entrusted his car to the Swede, could not hide his enthusiasm. “This car swap was a fantastic experience, but way too short!, he expressed. When I completed my five laps, it was just starting to get nicer and nicer. I'm really impressed with the DTMs. We already have big brakes on the Polo R WRC, but the Audi?s deceleration when braking is of another ilk. When coming out of a big turn, you have to be very careful with the accelerator. From this point of view, my four-wheel drive Polo is much more neutral than the Audi and its rear-wheel drive. »

Sébastien Ogier liked the experience so much that he hopes to be able to repeat it in the future. And why not full time, when he's done with rallying? “It goes without saying that at the moment I am totally focused on the WRC and on my goal of becoming world champion,” assured the French driver. But I could very well imagine myself racing in DTM once my rally career is over. It?s great to see that Audi is having such a good season. And the races are even more exciting thanks to DRS and optional tires. I really enjoyed this test and would love to be able to complete more rounds in the future. »

In the meantime, Sébastien Ogier will be present this weekend in Germany for the ninth round of the World Rally Championship. An event where the Volkswagen driver could already win his very first world champion title.
