Japan soon to return?

Le Rally of Japan could well come back in WRC from 2019. This is the information given by the Japanese site Yomiuri who announced that Aichi and Gifu prefectures would be potential candidates to host the event. The rally was previously held on the island of Hokkaido.

The land of the rising sun has only had a short presence in the WRC so far. This event was contested from 2004 to 2010 with an interruption in 2009.

Mikko Hirvonen remains the most victorious with two victories in 2007 and 2008 in the Ford Focus RS WRC. Petter Solberg won the first edition in a Subaru Impreza before being followed by Marcus Grönholm in a Peugeot 307 WRC and Sébastien Loeb on the Xsara WRC. Sébastien Ogier is the latest winner with the C4 WRC.
