The World Cup to China in 2016

The World Motor Sport Council, meeting today in Paris, revealed the rallies selected to be part of the 2016 WRC calendar. China joins the thirteen events contested in 2015.

The arrival of the China in the concert of rally world had been discussed for several months. The decisions made by the World Motor Sport Council, meeting this Wednesday in Paris, validate for the moment the presence of the Middle Kingdom on the 2016 calendar, which must still meet the conditions set by the FIA.

However, the dates of the season remain to be confirmed, as do the terms of the agreements between the Rallye Monte-Carlo and the authorities of the WRC, the same situation valid for the French round. The rounds on the program are as follows: Argentina, Australia, China, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Mexico, Monte-Carlo, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.

Among other decisions made regarding the World Championship, 51% of the route of an event must be covered by a driver for the latter to be awarded full points. Otherwise, only half of the points will be awarded.

The FIA Production Car Cup will also be stopped at the end of 2015 and the R5 category will be promoted in WRC-2, reducing the limit for S2000 cars with a 1,6L turbo engine.
