Rally Liepaja will not be included in the 2020 calendar

Counting among the multiple rallies that have applied to join a revamped calendar of the WRC in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, the Rally Liepaja had been in negotiations with WRC Promoter for several days.

Discussions which ultimately did not come to fruition, the organizers of the Latvian event having confirmed this Thursday that their event would not appear on the program.

“We thank the WRC promoter for recognizing Rally Liepaja as an event worthy of inclusion in the WRC, underlines Raimonds Strokšs, director of RA Events. This is a testament to the work we have done since 2012, when we began preparations for the first Rally Liepāja in 2013.

We also thank the FIA and Eurosport Events for their assistance. In recent days we have accomplished an enormous amount of work. We showed the WRC promoter that we, and all of Latvia, are not afraid to work hard and accept such a huge challenge as organizing a WRC event in such a short time.

However, for various reasons, it has been agreed that Rally Liepaja will not be a new addition to the revised WRC calendar this year.

We were very close to reaching an agreement to host a WRC rally in the Baltics for the first time, and we do not yet know what opportunities this could lead to in the future.

But over the past few weeks, we have never stopped working on preparing for the second round of the season. ERC and we look forward to presenting another extremely successful edition of our rally, which has always been our goal. »

No other information has filtered out on the possible 2020 WRC calendar, while remembering that Ypres or even Estonia are still in the running. The ERC European Rally Championship will travel to Latvia from August 14 to 16.
