2020 Rally Finland canceled

Le Rally of Finland scheduled for August 6 to 9 will ultimately not take place in 2020. The organizers of the major national event had to review their plans due to the coronavirus epidemic which continues to threaten the health of participants.

“Even if the situation regarding Covid-19 has improved in Finland, there remains too much uncertainty regarding health risks even though the test was to take place in two months, explained the organization in its press release. There are also other uncertainties that factored into this decision. For example, we lack information on state government restrictions on public events after July and whether foreigners can safely travel to Finland. »

“Even though we had prepared for the scenario of a possible cancellation of Rally Finland, this is devastating news for all of us, in many ways, commented the promoter of the event Jani Backman. By canceling the event, we want to show ourselves responsible to all shareholders as well as to all of society. Health and well-being are always the priority. »

“We will now focus our efforts on 2021, when we will be able to organize the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the event in an exceptional atmosphere with spectators, participants and all our partners”, added the promoter.

The Rally Finland was to begin the resumption of WRC whose 2020 season calendar remains unknown following the cancellation of the Rally Portugal and the Safari Rally. The Nordic country has been relatively spared so far by the Covid-19 pandemic with fewer than 7000 confirmed cases and 320 deaths recorded.
