Rally Finland present until 2023

Thanks to a contract extension for at least two years between the WRC and AKK Sports, the legendary Rally Finland event will take place until 2023.

On the eve of starting the 70th edition of the Rally of Finland, the WRC announced the extension of the contract with AKK Sports, the event's organizing company since 1997, in order to see the event appear on the world championship calendar for the next two years. The all-new hybrid cars that will be introduced to the competition in 2022 will have the opportunity to compete at the Jyväskylä-based event. “Rally Finland is one of the crown jewels of the WRC and fans around the world will be delighted with this news”, said Jona Siebel, general director of the WRC. “After all, it’s hard to imagine a WRC season without a visit to Finland’s breathtaking roller coaster roads”

Riku Bitter, CEO of AKK Sports, did not forget to thank the fans, whose support was invaluable during the period marked by Covid-19 and the cancellation of the 2020 edition. “I must also thank the Rally Finland stakeholders for their unwavering commitment and, of course, the fans for their support, especially in light of the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic ». He also maintained his desire to see this event included in the WRC calendar over the long term.« Naturally, we will do everything possible to ensure that Rally Finland is part of the WRC in the long term, but, for now, our immediate focus is on delivering a fantastic and truly memorable 70th anniversary event in conjunction with our title sponsor, Secto Automotive.
