Rally Finland postponed until autumn

The FIA and the organizers of the Rally from Finland hope that the 70th edition of the Nordic sprint will be a great celebration, in this country which is a great rally fan.

But in view of the health restrictions still in force in the country (gatherings prohibited until the summer) and in the hope of welcoming the public, the choice was made to postpone the legendary 1000 Lakes from the end of July to the end of September (September 30 – October 3).

A date that will echo in history since the first edition in 1951, the Jyväskylän Suurajot, was contested in the fall. Jyväskylä will also be the nerve center of the rally.

“Although we wanted Rally Finland to take place this summer, the reality of the Covid-19 pandemic means that we cannot organize the event without the certainty that the public can attend, says Kai Tarkiainen, responsible for the event.

Unlike Arctic Rally Finland, which had a great reception in February, Rally Finland is very much a spectator event and we need them to make it work.

Even without any certainty of being able to welcome fans in October, we hope that the rollout of the vaccination program will go a long way to making this possible. We thank all the local authorities, the FIA and the promoter of the WRC for accepting the new dates. »

A change in the calendar which now places the event between Ypres and Greece. The route for this 70th edition has yet to be formalized.
