Rally Finland postponed to September or October?

After the cancellation of the Rally of Portugal and the postponement without fixed date of the Italy-Sardinia Rally, it is with the Safari Rally that the WRC could resume next July.

The FIA and the WRC promoter have thus published a detailed update of the possibilities for the 2020 program of the World Championship, hinting at a decision from the Kenyan government on May 15, a date which coincides with the start of air freight.

If for the moment, preparations continue for the African event, the borders remain closed to people from outside the country.

Attention is also focused on the Rally Finland, initially scheduled for August, but which could see its date pushed back to September or October, an assessment of the situation having to be made in mid-June.

“No decisions on rally dates will be made until updates on states of emergency are available, states the press release.

There is a duty towards all stakeholders, including fans, drivers, teams, media, suppliers... to protect themselves but also the wider community, and this remains our primary objective.

We remain committed to organizing as many rallies as possible on their current date or, if possible, a postponed date. There is a constant dialogue between the FIA, the WRC promoter, the teams and the organizers to evaluate all options for the rallies including but not limited to:

The format (days of competition, competitive distance), championship conditions (number of events and points), logistics (facilities, locations, transportation), social requirements required regarding physical distancing, health, safety and on the medical plan. »

While New Zealand will have its case studied in May, preparations for Turkey, Germany, Wales Rally GB and Japan continue.
