The Rally Mexico wants “to be the most economical round on the calendar”

This edition must not have been easy to organize with the evolution of the coronavirus?

We have followed all the government's recommendations which are very close to what has been done throughout the world. There were very few cases in Mexico and none in the state of Guanajuato, which allowed us to receive approval and support from the authorities to organize the event. In particular, we separated the crews from the public, put hydro-alcoholic gel in various places in the service park, etc. We considered the idea of closing the site to spectators. (A few hours later, at the end of Saturday's stage, the race will be stopped. Editor's note)

Regarding the course, should we expect an expansion of its scope in the future? Why not resort to displaced assistance?

We have a set of routes and we manage to create a different route each year. We do not plan to explore other sectors, for the simple reason that we consider that offering a rally very compact is beneficial for teams. Arranging displaced assistance or changing tires would require them to rent vehicles. We believe that our overseas position already entails enough costs. Our desire is to be the most economical round on the calendar. I heard in the park that it was more expensive for a WRC3 team to compete in Finland than in Mexico!

After Argentina and Chile, Paraguay also wishes to integrate the WRC. If the FIA decides to organize a rotation between the 4 rounds located on this side of the ocean, will you be in favor of it?

We are absolutely against it! It's very simple: if this rotation takes place, we will not be able to hold on.
