The Safari Rally will not take place in 2020

Expected by many, the return of the Safari Rally will not take place in 2020, due to uncertainties linked to the coronavirus pandemic. As indicated by the promoter of WRC, May 15 marked the date on which the Kenyan government was to provide news on the holding of the test.

Unsurprisingly, the local authorities preferred to play it safe and, in agreement with the promoter of the WRC, preferred to postpone the return of the event to the calendar until 2021.

“We will continue to prepare for the event while the foundations are well laid and we look forward to welcoming professional rally drivers, teams and fans to Kenya when the event is rescheduled next year. indicates a press release from the Kenyan authorities.

Postpone rally in 2021 was not an easy decision, however we are taking into account current global challenges and ensuring that the Safari Rally will be an important part of our history for the next three years. »

It is therefore Finland which could reopen the WRC season if by chance the August dates are maintained. However, the WRC organizers have already indicated that a postponement of the test to September or October could take place.
