The Safari Rally is still aiming for a return by 2020

Japan, Canada… Several countries are in the running to re-enter the World Rally Championship in the more or less near future and with more or less certainty. Another pillar round of the WRC for many years, and legendary because of his career, also seems to be in the running.

The Safari Rally, organized in Kenya, would indeed be in the running to join the WRC by 2020. As reported Capital FM Sports, the committees launched last year in the country to work on the file will welcome Jean Todt, president of the FIA, on February 27 to inaugurate the premises of the WRC Safari Rally Project.

Having already visited the country twice, the former head of Team Ferrari admitted during one of his visits “There was no reason why Kenya couldn't return to the WRC if all processes were followed.

So far we are very impressed with the Kenya National Rally Championship as one of the best events in Africa. But the new standards of rally must be respected. What was possible at the time, when the events took place on open roads, is not possible today with the population. »

The Safari Rally was last organized as part of the World Championship in 2002.
