The 2010 WRC takes shape

Le WRC 2010 is underway and thirteen dates are scheduled for the next season, one more than this year, subject to validation. Sweden replaces Ireland at the start of the season and several changes should be noted. Many events are slipping away, such as Argentina, Australia, Norway, Cyprus, Italy, Greece, Poland? France makes its return with a Rally at the beginning of October, even if the region to host it is not yet known (decision on October 28). Other countries are returning or entering, such as Mexico, Jordan, Turkey, New Zealand, Japan and Bulgaria. The Bulgarian Rally has the originality of finishing on Saturday, so as not to conflict with the final of the Football World Cup, on Sunday July 11. All other events will end, by default, on Sunday. But the organizers will have the possibility of having it finished a day earlier.

The J-WRC (Junior) championship will have six dates (Turkey, Portugal, Bulgaria, Germany, France, Spain) and each driver will have to choose five events to compete in, instead of six out of eight in 2009. In P-WRC (Production) , six dates will be chosen out of the nine planned, instead of six out of eight this year.

An S2000 World Cup (“WRC Cup”) will be established, with ten dates planned. Among these ten meetings, participants will have to opt for seven events, including at least two outside Europe. All the details of this WRC Cup will be known subsequently, in particular after validation by the FIA World Council. The latter will also validate the technical rules of the WRC from the 2011 season, all the details of which can be found in issue n°1719 of AUTOhebdo this week.
