WRC to switch to 100% renewable fuel in 2022

In its aim to best meet current needs in terms of cleaner travel, the FIA has formalized the passage of WRC 100% sustainable fuels from the 2022 season, that of the advent of hybrid powertrains.

To produce a fuel based on non-fossil hydrocarbons, comprising a mixture of synthetic components and biofuels, a first at this level in rally, the governing body of motorsport has selected the company P1 Racing Fuels, in order to “guarantee a significant reduction in net CO2 emissions, while having the same performance characteristics and a price as close as possible to current fuel. »

“Motorsport has long been an arena where innovations are born that shape the future of mobility, recalls Martin Popilka, managing director of P1 Racing Fuels, based in Ireland.

This is why P1 Fuels is particularly proud to bring the first fully renewable fuel to WRC stages. Our exclusive formulation is the result of four years of research and innovation.

It represents a first in the world of racing technology, but also an important step towards carbon-neutral engines for the future of sustainable mobility.

Delivering an innovative, sustainable and cost-effective fuel at scale is not only an exciting challenge for the world of motorsport, but also for the automotive world – a promising sign that the future of fully carbon-neutral production cars is now a little closer to reality. »

“We put a lot of effort into finding the best possible solution and we can be proud of the result, underlines Jona Siebel, general director of WRC Promoter. The chosen blend of biofuel and innovative e-fuel components makes the WRC a true leader in sustainable motorsport with everyday cars. »
