The 17 world rally champions inducted into the Hall of Fame
The 2019 vintage of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) Hall of Fame had the theme of the World Rally Championship (WRC). Organized on Wednesday January 30 at Place de la Concorde in Paris, the ceremony has rewarded all the world champions of the discipline since its creation in 1979.
Several drivers were present to collect their trophies: Walter Röhrl (titled in 1980, 1982), Ari Vatanen (1981), Massimo 'Miki' Biasion (1988, 1989), Carlos Sainz (1990, 1992), Didier Auriol (1994), Tommi Mäkinen (1996 to 1999), Marcus Grönholm (2000, 2002), Petter Solberg (2003) and Sébastien Loeb (2004 to 2012).
The missing Björn Waldegard (champion in 1979), Colin McRae (1995) and Richard Burns (2001) were represented respectively by his son Mathias Waldegard, his father Jimmy McRae and his sister Jo Burns. The co-pilots were fortunately not forgotten and received honors from the FIA.
For the ceremony,seven cars were arranged at the entrance of the FIA premises: a Alpine A110, a Lancia Stratos, a Peugeot 205 T16, one Toyota Corolla WRC, a Citroën Xsara WRC and a Volkswagen Polo R WRC. The gallery features a range of helmets and suits worn by world champions.
