The promoter of the World Rally Championship (WRC) revealed the audience figures for the 2018 season on Tuesday March 5 as part of the Geneva Motor Show (Switzerland).
France, Belgium, Poland, Finland, Spain and Japan are among the six largest TV markets. Worldwide, 14 hours of WRC programs were broadcast in 208, compared to 13 hours the previous year. This constitutes a new record, and an increase of more than 140% compared to 2013, when WRC Promoter took over the commercial rights to the competition.
The WRC continues to attract more audiences. In 2018, they were 823,79 million to follow the championship, also a significant increase compared to 2013 (+36%). These figures are justified according to promoter Oliver Ciesla by the “the unpredictability that led to fantastic battles for victories and titles.
Changes to the event format, including a change in starting order and an attractive Power Stage format with more points on offer, have also helped increase fan interest to new levels. »
Enfin, le WRC s’est montré généreux envers les équipes officielles. Citroën, Toyota, Hyundai and Ford M-Sport ont perçu each more than 100 million euros in media-derived revenue. This represents an increase of 70%.
