Rally1s without hybrid system from next year

This FIA World Motor Sport Council was eagerly awaited by everyone in the world of motorsport. WRC. While it has been at the bottom of the wave for some time and all means are now good to save it, the queen category of rally world will be readjusted somewhat from next year to try to restart the machine.

Among the many decisions of the World Council, the one that attracted the most attention concerns the Rally1 and their hybrid system. While it appeared in 2022, this technology will no longer be relevant in 2025 and 2026. In addition to the difficulty it has given teams over the last three years, it has above all exploded the costs in WRC with around 1 million euros for a current Rally1.

« The current Rally1 car will remain the flagship WRC vehicle in 2025 and 2026, but with changes aimed at reducing cost and performance, announces the FIA ​​World Motor Sport Council. These include the removal of the plug-in hybrid unit, with performance offset by a reduction in overall weight, and a reduction in air intake flange and aerodynamics.."

With the removal of hybrid technology from next year, the cost is expected to be reduced by more than half to 400 euros. A decision undoubtedly taken to prevent current competitors from packing up while costs have exploded. As for the arrival of new manufacturers, it’s not going to happen right away…
