Loeb: “I love my new Hyundai colors”

What have you been doing since announcing your transfer to Hyundai ?

I went to Dubai twice to prepare for the 2019 Dakar, the first time with my competition vehicle (the Peugeot 3008 DKR from PH Sport) and the other time with a buggy to get back into the habit of driving through the dunes. I also spent some time with my family and my daughter at Christmas. I am ready for a demanding month which will start with the Dakar.

When will you first drive the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC ?

We only have a small window of use before Monte-Carlo (January 24 to 27). I will return from the Dakar on January 18, and the Monte-Caro reconnaissance is planned for the 21st. I hope that we will have prepared as best as possible for the opening of the WRC season, even with this short delay.

How was your first visit to the Hyundai factory in Alzenau (Germany)?

This visit was productive and definitely helped me and Daniel (Elena) be immediately in the right tempo when we test drive the car. I was able to mold my seat, as I had already been able to do during the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC, with Citroën in 2015) but never for rally. We made some adjustments to make it more comfortable in the cockpit and ready for testing. This will allow us to maximize the little testing time before Monte-Carlo.

How have you gotten used to the new Hyundai Motorsport colors?

It's going to take me a while, having spent so many years with the same manufacturer so far. I love my new Hyundai colors, I can't wait to tackle this challenge. It promises to be an exciting season.

What are your goals for 2019? Are victories possible?

Of course, I want to fight for success and at the same time, I know that it will be difficult to return to the WRC with a new structure and a new car. I competed in three rounds last year, won one of them (in Catalonia on the Citroën C3 WRC). I hope to quickly get my bearings with the i20 Coupe WRC and be able to show my competitiveness quickly, and who knows, be in a position to be first. »
