M-Sport Ford launches into WRC 2 Pro with two Fiesta R5s

Regular presenters in the category WRC 2, the team M-Sport Ford has reiterated its commitment to the second class of the World Rally Championship in 2019. Two Ford Fiestas meeting R5 regulations will be lined up, one for the Briton Gus Greensmith, the other for a newcomer, Lukasz Pieniazek.

In 2019, WRC 2 will be separated into two classifications. The usual WRC 2 continues to be reserved for private teams, while crews supported by manufacturers are redirected to the new WRC 2 Pro. This is where M-Sport Ford decided to get involved, thanks to the support of the American manufacturer.

Gus Greensmith will return to Monte-Carlo (January 24-27) in the Fiesta R5 which allowed him to score four podiums in WRC 2 in 2018. He will be joined by a new co-driver, his compatriot Elliott Edmondson. As for the Pole Lukasz Pieniazek, he will begin a new stage in his young career which began in 2014 in Sweden (February 14-17).

« I came close to success in WRC 2 last year, specifies Gus Greensmith, It’s something I don’t want to let go of now. The highlight of 2019 will surely be the Rally of Portugal, where I will make a dream come true by driving a WRC."

Team Principal Richard Millener explains why he chose Lukasz Pieniazek. “We are aware of his performance. We are following his progress as we have done for all promising young drivers. With two years of WRC 2 behind him (including a podium in Portugal), he is ready for the next level and determined to learn as much as possible. »
