M-Sport makes history in Mexico

Fourth at the finish of the Power Stage, the Norwegian Mads Ostberg took advantage of the penalty imposed on the Spaniard Dani Sordo to get on a podium which gives him second place in the general classification of the championship after three events. A result which also allows the team M-Sport designate a 200th consecutive finish in the points since Monte-Carlo 2002, becoming the first manufacturer to reach this milestone in the history of the World Championship.

“This is a huge achievement for Ford and M-Sport, and we are all very proud of it. comments Malcolm Wilson, boss of the British team. When we started this series, there was no Rally 2 rule, which is all the more impressive.

One day this will end but we have given our rivals an extremely difficult target to hit. I am convinced that it will be very difficult for another manufacturer to beat this and I have to thank the whole M-Sport team. Without them this would not have been possible. »

17 drivers contributed to this result: Mikko Hirvonen (95 points finishes), Jari-Matti Latvala (56), Marcus Grönholm (29), Markko Märtin (28), Elfyn Evans (22), François Duval (19), Mads Østberg (16), Toni Gardemeister (13), Ott Tänak (12), Petter Solberg (11), Evgeny Novikov (11), Roman Kresta (10), Carlos Sainz (9), Colin McRae (9), Janne Tuohino (2), Henning Solberg (1) and Eric Camilli (1). 2811 points have been scored since Monte-Carlo 2002, and 889 special stages won.
