M-Sport prefers to wait before returning to testing

Both the Toyota Gazoo Racing que Hyundai Motorsport n’ont pas chômé depuis que la possibilité a été donnée de renouer avec les roulages pour préparer la reprise, encore incertaine, du World Rally Championship.

A return to the track that the Team has not yet achieved in the same proportions M-Sport. But an absence that Team Principal Richard Millener clearly explains.

“We didn’t really see the point of going to test in Finland when we know we’re not going to race there this year, specifies the British official on the WRC website. In addition to the financial aspect, there was also the fact that we could not bring back furloughed staff to carry out the tests and, with the quarantine rules, traveling was quite complicated for us.

Our feeling is that we prefer to wait, to understand what the schedule is going to look like and then create our testing plan around that. »

A fairly logical choice for Team M-Sport, which does not have the largest budget of the three brands involved in WRC. Let us also remember that the training of Dovenby Hall stopped his involvement in the Intercontinental GT Challenge for 2020, the program being carried out on behalf of Bentley Motorsport.

With a view to containing costs as much as possible at the end of the season, the FIA announced several measures at the last World Motor Sport Council, including reduction of tests before each European round of the calendar.
