Who will be the big winner of the hybrid era? This is the question that everyone is asking themselves at the moment, particularly Malcolm Wilson. For this 2022 season, the teams are facing the unknown since none of them really knows where they stand in relation to their competitors at the dawn of the start of a new chapter in the history of the WRC.

Pilote pendant les beaux jours des Groupe B et désormais membre intégrant de la direction de M-Sport, Malcolm Wilson fait face au « bigger » technical change in his career with the introduction of hybrid cars in the World Rally Championship as there are new parameters to take into account.

« There's no other way to say it: the changes for this season represent a huge technological step forward for the championship cars, says M-Sport CEO. It's the biggest (change) of my entire career and I think reliability will be the key to winning titles this season."

Une idée également soutenue par son homologue du Toyota Gazoo Racing, Jari-Matti Latvala. « Reliability will definitely be a key factor for all teams, indicates the former pilot. There are a lot of new areas for cars this year. Of course we would all like to have more time for testing, but Monte Carlo is coming and we need to be ready. There's always an element of unknown in this sport, but there will be more than ever with the hybrid and other changes to the cars this year. It will be an exciting season."

Malcolm Wilson and Jari-Matti Latvala will have a first answer in a fortnight on the occasion of the Rally Monte-Carlo, scene of the first round of the season and the start of the hybrid era in the WRC.
