Matton: “At least 5 brands interested in hybrid”

The next FIA World Council to be held on Friday June 14 should lift the veil on the future of the WRC and on the possibility of seeing hybrid technology land on rally cars entered in the world championship.

FIA Rally Director Yves Matton confirmed that several manufacturers were interested in this project for the future generation of WRCs scheduled for 2022.

“The project will be submitted to the WRC commission, then will be presented to the World Council. The goal is for the next generation WRCs to be hybrid. This concerns the brands present, but also others… There are at least five”, said Yves Matton in AUTOhebdo.

The former director of Citroën Racing also spoke of other perspectives on the future of the rally World.

“The current regulations for R5 have made it successful… We cannot, however, say that in the more or less long term, it will not also happen in R5…”, added the Belgian.
