Matton for the diversity of the events

Last month, competitors of the rally from Argentina traveled 503 kilometers. This is 150 kilometers more than a conventional event. According to Yves Matton, this type of approach is positive for the WRC. “I think it?s a good idea to have rallies with formats that differ depending on the event, explains the Belgian. I'm not going to say that we would only like 500 kilometer rallies. The 350 kilometer European events are very good too. Having a diversity of events on the calendar is also very interesting. »

For their part, the organizers of the Argentina rally are already hard at work to maintain the “ Endurance » of their rally. They hope to shorten the connections and keep as many timed kilometers as possible by adding long special stages and shorter ones to the route. ?It?s good to have stages whose mileage varies a lot, admits Hirvonen. Of course, they should not be too long. But for the moment, the majority of the stages are nice. I have no worries about that for next year. »

At the end of May, the entire WRC circus will take place in Greece for the Acropolis Rally. A rally which this time will include 409 kilometers of timed course.
