Michèle Mouton wants a “rougher” course for the Safari Rally

Reporting ! Organizers of the Kenya Safari Rally received a visit from Michele Mouton in mid-April 2019 in order to evaluate the course of the African event. The legendary test wants to make its return to the World Rally Championship (WRC) in 2020.

Responsible for sleeve safety WRC for the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, Michèle Mouton was able to analyze the route of the 2019 Safari Rally (July 5-7). The event is due to open with a 4,5 kilometer super special stage at the Kasarani stadium in Kenya's capital, Nairobi.

Subsequently, the former official Audi World driver inspected the paths traced in the areas of Naivasha, Soysambu, Nakuru and Baringo, located in the Rift Valley province. The decor would be worthy of a postcard, with savannah landscapes at the foot of Mount Longonot.

The head of the Women in Motorsport Commission for the FIA (Women in Motorsport Commission) gave an encouraging opinion. “The road is perfect, but could be further improved to make it even rougher for the competitors, while keeping safety in mind”, indicates a press release from the organization.

“His desire is to see the Safari Rally as a real test for men and machines”, continues the official text. “Obviously, Africa deserves a round of the WRC, and I wish the Kenyan organizers good luck in their endeavours”, completes the one that finished the 1983 edition of the rally in third place.

Michèle Mouton will return to Kenya and drive the opening vehicle before the Safari Rally next summer.
