Mikkelsen retires in Australia, Neuville leads at mid-stage

While he was in the lead with still more than 15 seconds ahead of his teammate Thierry Neuville, the Norwegian was trapped by hitting an embankment on the Newry17 course and suffered a double puncture. The Scandinavian was able to reach the finish but had to give up after only having a spare wheel on board.

Le Nord-Irlandais a perdu du temps, comme son coéquipier Craig Breen, in the first special of the day, the 48,89km of Nambucca17, contested in rainy conditions.

Craig Breen finds himself behind the Estonian and sees Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) less than nine seconds behind the top five.

Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport) is only in seventh place without really being able to explain this withdrawal. The five-time world champion is one minute ahead of his compatriot Stéphane Lefebvre (Citroën). Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) and Esapekka Lappi (Toyota) complete the top ten.
