Sébastien Ogier has a strong chance of being titled at the end of the Rally of Catalonia, antepenultimate round of the 2016 season of WRC. His direct rival for the title Andreas Mikkelsen made a mistake in SS12, the second pass of Alcover Capafonts who opened the second pass of the second stage, while the Norwegian was in third place, 37 seconds behind the Frenchman.

The Volkswagen driver rolled after hitting a guardrail at the exit of a right turn taken too quickly. The Polo R WRC ended its race against a tree. The team reassured the crew that they are doing well.

Sébastien Ogier will now be assured of the coronation if he gets a point. Thierry Neuville remains mathematically in the fight for the coronation even if he must win the Rally of Catalonia and the Power Stage if he wants to prevent the three-time world champion from winning a fourth coronation in Spain.
