Less pressure for Hirvonen

Having gone from twenty points behind to one point ahead in the World Rally Championship standings in three events, Mikko Hirvonen admits to feeling less pressure thanks to his good results.

“I am very happy to tackle the Rally of Finland as championship leader,” he confided after his tests. “The situation was reversed during the last tests. I never thought such a reversal was possible. »

Mikko Hirvonen will take the start of his seventh Rally Finland but remains in pursuit of a first victory on home soil: “The route is quite different from last year but uses roads that we have used in recent seasons. Overall, the stages will perhaps be a little wider. I prefer this type of route. I really feel confident. We had some good tests and I think I have more experience than last season. My latest results have taken a lot of pressure off me. »

“It's a new championship that is starting and I know that I have to win at least two of the next four events consistently to have a chance of being titled,” concludes the Ford driver.
