Monte-Carlo: Ogier takes off, Sordo abandons

Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport) a fait un grand pas vers une éventuelle sixième victoire au Rally Monte Carlo. The five-time champion WRC increased his lead to more than a minute against Ott Tänak (Tänak) while the Estonian had come back to within 15 seconds of the Frenchman's Ford Fiesta WRC at the end of the second stage.

Cet écart est dû à un temps canon du Français réalisé dans la première spéciale du jour, l’ES9 d’Agnières en Dévoluy – Corps, disputée sur une route complètement enneigée. Le champion en titre, qui profitait comme Ott Tänak d’une bonne position sur la route, a devancé de plus d’une minute l’Estonien qui a néanmoins pu légèrement réduire son retard dans la spéciale suivante (l’ES10 de Saint-Léger-les-Mélèzes – La Bâtie-Neuve) en reprenant 15 secondes au leader. Ce dernier est cependant rentré à l’assistance avec tout de même 1’03 d’avance sur le premier pilote Toyota.

Le Rallye Monte-Carlo ne sourit décidément pas à Hyundai Motorsport. Seul pilote de l’équipe coréenne encore aux avant-postes, Dani Sordo a abandonné dans l’ES9 suite à une sortie de route. Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) a été le premier à en bénéficier puisque le Finlandais complète désormais le podium provisoire après avoir largué son coéquipier Esapekka Lappi qui pointe à 25 secondes.

Kris Meeke (Citroën) now completes the new top five, maintaining a lead of more than half a minute over Bryan Bouffier (M-Sport). The French driver saw Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) come back on him, the Welshman only 16 seconds behind. Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) follows at 30 seconds. Craig Breen (Citroën) and Jan Kopecky (Skoda), still solid leader of WRC 2, complete the top ten.

The crews will compete in the second pass of the third stage of the Monte-Carlo Rally from 11:57 a.m. The day will end with a second passage of Bayons-Breziers, the second special stage contested during the first stage.
