From 1’03 to midday, the gap between Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport) and Ott Tänak (Toyota) est descendu à 39’’5 au Rally Monte-Carlo in just two stages. The Estonian made the right choice by relying solely on snow tires while the leader of the event took a mix of snow rubber and studded tires.
Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) remains well established in third row, but it is now Kris Meeke (Citroën) who occupies fourth place. The Northern Irishman took advantage of a puncture on the Yaris WRC of Esapekka Lappi in SS11 at Agnières-en-Dévouy, but the Finn has already returned to contact with the C3 WRC just six seconds behind.
Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) is in sixth place after regaining the advantage over his teammate Bryan Bouffier who finds himself under threat of Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) revenu à une douzaine de secondes. Craig Breen (Citroën) and Jan Kopecky (Skoda), leader of WRC 2, still complete the top ten.
The third stage of the Monte-Carlo Rally will end with the second passage of Bayons-Breziers (25,49km) which will be contested from 16:09 p.m. following new assistance. The crews crossed this stage for the first time during the first stage on Thursday which was run in the evening.
