Neuville and Tänak extend their contract at Hyundai

The pieces of the World Rally Championship puzzle (WRC) are being put in place for the years to come. This Thursday, May 6, the team Hyundai Motorsport has made contract extensions official for Thierry Neuville et Ott Tänak “over several years” as of 2022.

The Belgian, who has been part of the South Korean manufacturer's WRC adventure since his return in 2014, has never had the ambition to look elsewhere. « My intention was to continue the adventure with Hyundai Motorsport and I am happy to sign a multi-year contract with the team that has become my second family. Besides the fact that I feel really good with them, their determination and their goal of victory convinced me to continue the fantastic journey that we started together more than seven years ago.", explains the five-time vice-champion driver of the discipline.

This extension comes before theintroduction of the hybrid system in WRC from 2022. A prospect that excites the 32-year-old pilot. “Their approach and their ambitions for the new challenges coming next year are very promising. I love the rally and I'm not ready to stop! I have dreamed of it since I was a child and thanks to Hyundai and my strong motivation, dedication and determination, I continue to give the best of myself”, states the current second of the 2021 season after three events.

As for Ott Tänak, the 2019 world champion wants to settle permanently with a team which only welcomed him from Toyota in 2020. “We have shared many special moments together, while going through more difficult times, recognizes Estonian, notably because of his accident at Monte-Carlo or its difficulties on asphalt.

“I’ve seen the team’s commitment and determination to succeed and I’m sure everyone will continue to push the boundaries. We are entering the new era of the WRC because we are moving to hybrid regulations and that means everyone will be starting from a blank slate. Hyundai Motorsport has a vast body of knowledge and experience in hybrid and electric technologies which will play an important role when we start developing the new Rally1 car. »

Their boss, Andrea Adamo, believes that this announcement reassures Hyundai of Hyundai's desire to write good pages in the years to come in the World Rally Championship. “Working with these two talented drivers once again demonstrates our determination and ambition to succeed, and reaffirms Hyundai's strong commitment. We also cannot forget that we still have work to do together this year, focused on our goals for 2021 and looking forward to 2022 and beyond. »
