Le Rally of Sweden 2019 begins under good auspices for Thierry Neuville (Hyundai). The Belgian, already credited with the best time during the shakedown on Thursday morning, affirmed his ease by setting the best time during the short first special on Thursday evening, contested in the Karlstad stadium.
Navigated by Nicolas Gilsoul, the 2018 vice-champion completed the 1,9 km super special with an eight-tenths lead over his direct rival. Sébastien Ogier (Citroën) and a 1”1 margin over Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai).
The first pilot Toyota is Ott Tänak, fourth (+1”9), ahead of his teammate Jari-Matti Latvala. For his return after nine years of absence, Marcus Grönholm (Toyota) put in a good performance with the eighth fastest time (+4''1), ahead of Kris Meeke (Toyota, +4''4).
