Neuville: “A beautiful gift” offered to Ogier

The closest finish in the history of Rally Monte-Carlo did not smile at Thierry Neuville (Hyundai). Le Belge a dû se contenter dimanche 27 janvier de la deuxième place for only 2”2 against a Sébastien Ogier (Citroën) motivated as never before. 

 

The outgoing vice-champion quickly examined his conscience. He lost these two seconds during the sixth special on Friday afternoon. « We gave him a great gift by making a mistake giving him head, he explains. This mistake cost us first place and we were never able to regain it. It’s part of the game.”

 

 

Second, Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Gilsoul, however, are making their best start to the World Rally Championship season (WRC) of their career. Until then, the Belgian pair had reached at best the third step of the podium in Monte-Carlo during the 2016 edition.

 

 

“It’s hard to live with but the result remains positive because we score a lot of points, tries to satisfy Thierry Neuville. We would have loved to win but we are now focusing on the next events. »

Andrea Adamo, the new boss of Hyundai Motorsport, saw only positives in this inaugural meeting. “I hope everyone enjoyed the battle as much as I did!” It was a fantastic way to start the WRC season. I am delighted with this result, the best in our history at Monte-Carlo. »
